10.5" Wood Chess Set - Handmade Premium Magnetic Folding Chess Board - Wooden Travel Staunton Chess Game with Built in Storage

I must begin by admitting that I have not actually used this set yet. I ordered it to give to my son on his 18th birthday. I decided to go with a travel set so he could bring it with him to dad's house and use it to challenge his old man. I think he's probably still too young to appreciate the beauty of the set yet, but being a former woodworker (before my stroke ended my ability to use my tools), I can tell you that it is gorgeous. The corners are made by using a dovetail technique which adds both beauty and strength to the construction of the carcass. The hand-carved pieces are very small, but very well done by an accomplished craftsman and very usable, I'm sure. One of the reasons I chose this set over others is that each piece has its own perfectly fitted cut-out spot in foam padding under the playing surface for storage instead of piling all the pieces together in a common compartment. I didn't look closely at the hinge or the clasps, but they seemed to work just fine when I had my son open it up to show me the inside for inspection after he took the wrapping paper off. After reading the other reviews. I was a little nervous about missing pieces or a smelly finish. I'm very happy to tell you that every piece was there in its proper spot like a line of soldiers standing at attention for inspection. Also, the finish was applied perfectly with no runs or smudges. I'm 100% impressed! Now I can hardly wait for my son to come visit from college and bring his travel set so I can enjoy playing it with him. I first wanted to get him a beautiful big wooden set that could be something of a show piece, but decided that having a travel set made more sense so he could take it on church youth group trips, trips to Walt Disney world with his mom or anywhere else he wants (like to his dad's house). I definitely think I made a good decision. Very impressive, indeed, and worth far more than the $40 or so that I paid for it. Have you gotten the impression yet that I highly recommend this set? Well go back and read it again and maybe you'll come to that conclusion.

I have been playing chess all of ,my life, and currently own roughly 15 sets of various sizes and styles. I have probably owned about 40 board over the course of my lifetime. As well, I enjoy woodworking on the side, and make many cabinets and tables. I say these things to preface what I'm about to say; This is a well-constructed, quality set, and the price is killer too. Most smaller 'travel' sets come up short in quality, so it was a pleasant surprise to receive this set. Close inspection revealed that each individual square is a separate piece of wood. The board inlays around the playing field are also made of wood. The wood of the entire set is nicely done with a nice semi-glass finish. The pieces are functional, but they are not weighted. The magnets are strong enough that you can place them on the board, turn it upside down and move it around with confidence that they will not move. Each piece has its own little storage pocket inside the folding board. The only real nitpick (and it's probably just me) is that there is no locking latch to ensure the board remains closed. I only mention that because if you are purchasing this set in order to use it for travel, there is a possibility under the right conditions that the board could come open and some of the pieces could get lost. However, the magnets built into the box are fairly strong so it would take some force to create that situation. Another thing you may want to consider is that the quality wood and solid construction makes this set substantial in weight despite its diminutive size. I would also get a small bag to prevent scratches to the playing field if you're planning to use this set for travel. Ok, to sum it up, get this set! You will NOT be disappointed.

My six-year-old loves chess! This small board is beautifully crafted and great for on the go or around the house. The magnetic top is a great bonus to this set - and all the pieces can be stored inside the board when it is folded and clasped closed. The only difficulties: the clasps can be a bit tight and I have had to make sure my six-year-old does not use his teeth for opening it - check yours and see if you can loosen it a bit before letting kids loose with it. Also, the pieces do not always stay in the foam, so be careful when you open the board to play, so that pieces do not fall out everywhere and get lost. Otherwise, this is a great option for chess lovers - esp. when you want a lovely board that can be folded and stored away when not in use.

This is a smaller set, which is good if you are traveling. The pieces are really well carved, and the board is beautiful.I don't understand the negative comments about the magnets. They are strong enough. You don't want them so strong that you pick up the whole board when you move your pieces. They hold well enough to keep the pieces from moving when the board is bumped or if you are playing on a bus or car. A burlap bag was included which helps to keep the board from getting scratched.I would buy this again if I needed another set, and would recommend it to any who are looking for a quality travel set that is not expensive.

For the price, this is a fine travel magnetic chess set and well deserves Five Stars for its quality. Unfortunately, I spent a great deal of time going through all of the travel chess sets Amazon had to offer and picked this set over its rivals because the Amazon images clearly show that the set includes a second set of Queens, which I wanted for when there is a pawn promotion. The images do not match what you'll receive, this set does NOT contain a second set of Queens. Still, at $15 and change, it is not worth the effort needed for returning and is a nice little set, despite not being what I thought I was buying. Wouldn't you know it, but in the very first game played with this set, there was a Pawn Promotion, though only after a Queen exchange, so the desired second Queen was not needed ... This Time ... Oh well, you can never have too many chess sets, so I will try again at some point and see if any of the sets promising a second set of Queens does actually match their descriptions.

ero scettico, pensavo al solito prodottino cinese, invece è fatto benissimo, in legno delle caselle è sorprendentemente spesso, i pezzi sono ben rifiniti nonostante siano abbastanza piccoli, nel complesso un ottimo prodotto che costa meno della metà di prodotti analoghi ma di marche più prestigiose!!

La calidad del Tablero, las piezas hechas a mano son una maravilla, por otro lado el sistema de imantado en algunas piezas se ve afectado, debido a la artesanía del mismo…

Très bon jeu d'échec, aimanté comme il faut. Je pourrais poster des photos mais celles fournies en présentation sont très fidèles. Il s'agit de vrai carrés de bois et pas d'une impression. on peut d'ailleurs le voir sur les photos. Vraiment très satisfait de mon achat. Taille idéale pour le voyage (voiture, train...)

Aspectos negativos de este producto.En primer lugar, este tablero de ajedrez no suele venir con las reinas adicionales que anuncia. Desde este momento pierde su valor agregado, y pasa a ser otro ajedrez del montón, nada especial.Los imanes son muy débiles. Si bien este tablero de ajedrez no es sometido a condiciones extremas, la debilidad de los imanes limita mucho la utilidad de este tablero de ajedrez como tablero de viaje, o en situaciones en las que se requiere trasladar el tablero sin desacomodar las piezas.Aspectos positivos.El material satisface mis expectativas. Bien torneado, las piezas no tienen astillas ni defectos en su fabricación. El tablero está bien elaborado y empacado. Los dos tipos de madera contrastan muy bien, y los fieltros en la base de las piezas ayudan a prevenir rayones en la madera y facilitar el movimiento de las piezas.El tamaño es el adecuado para utilizar este ajedrez en análisis y la ocasional partida en cualquier lugar con el espacio suficiente.
