It was great, met my specific needs.
For starters, I have only used this for pictures not videos.Another thing, I am your average everyday amateur, not a pixel peeper. When I was shopping around for a new camera form factor and end result quality was very important to me. So much so that I quickly landed on the Nikon J4. It was good, but did not meet my specific needs. So I moved on to Sony. At first I was thinking about the pancake prime for the e-mount- the SE20F28 by Sony, which as the name suggests is 20mm/2.8. However, 30mm equivalent seemed a little wide and reviews where not too impressive. While it would definitely help in my quest to have a small camera that could take stellar photos, that particular lens did not meet my needs- a "pocketable" lens with the ability to take great photos. Moving on I did look into the SEL35F18 and then I found my current gem. I decided to take the plunge and I am glad I did.I purchased an a5100, body only with this as the only lens and I regret nothing. The camera keeps its small form factor with this super star of a lens. While obviously not (pants) "pocketable" it fits into a jacket pocket with ease without making any unacceptable sacrifices to quality and that is exactly what I was looking for.The bottom line for meThe good-Lens was perfect in terms of size and weightThe lens loves people, performs amazing for portraitsFocuses rather quickPerforms great in low lightWhat left me wanting-I really wish the focus ring was knurled instead of rubberizedBokeh really seems to drop off after a certain distanceFocus is a little loud if you want to nitpickLong story short- If form factor/size is important to you without making any serious cuts to quality I cannot recommend this lens enough. The drawbacks would not deter me from calling this a good lens for any casual shooter.

The Lovely Touit
I bought this lens to be my kit lens on a Sony A6000, which I bought body only. I love primes and have been shooting with them for about eight years. The Sony is my first foray into mirror-less CSC's. I love the build quality and the rubberized focus ring. I also love the 48mm(equiv) focal length. I have a Voigtlander Ultron 40 which I use on my D700 and it is surprising how useful the 40 mm focal length range is being between the classic 35's and 50's.This Zeiss glass is lovely. I have seen comparisons ad nauseum considering softness here or there, or the over sharpness of the bokeh etc etc etc. What is lost in all of this is that premium lens manufacturers such as Zeiss have decades of experience in producing lenses that give up sharpness and micro detail here or there on purpose for they are designed with what I call "painting" in mind. They are produced for their signature "look." This is obviously quite subjective. You like the look or you don't.As far as bokeh is concerned, I've found that background selection is a major part of OOF smoothness no matter what lens one is using. This Zeiss Touit is so nice that I am buying one for a Fujifilm X E2 that I have ordered.I will not give up my D700, but mirrorless cameras have come far enough to strike my fancy. And the Zeiss Touit is a worthy companion and worth every penny.

Very Good Optics, Poor Control Tactility, Growls Like an Empty Gut
The Zeiss 32mm f/1.8 Touit lens for Fuji X mounts is a very good lens. It's optically fast, nicely sharp and contrasty across the frame, and is light yet seems well-built. It's an excellent choice for anyone who needs a (nearly) 50mm prime lens for their X-mount camera. And at a recently discounted price it's a far better value proposition than it was when it was first introduced! But I have two complaints. First, the auto-focus mechanism is far from silent...or even from quiet. The whole lens servo system growls a bit louder than I would expect. It's particularly pronounced when switching the camera between playback and shooting modes. This is mostly just a curiosity to me, as I rarely need my camera to be silent. But for those who do need silence while shooting, this is NOT the lens for you.Second, and somewhat more aggravating, the focus and aperture adjustment rings on the lens barrel are finished in a rubber-like material. That's fine, except that they're absolutely flush with the barrel and offer no textural differentiation whatsoever. It will take some practice to be able to quickly make manual adjustments without looking at the barrel...and even then you'll likely fumble. Surely, SURELY Zeiss knows that this is a weak user-design. Their other lenses are made of metal and feature significant sure-grip ribbing with varied widths and heights on their focus/aperture adjustment rings. Zeiss knows how to execute this crucial detail correctly. One can only hope that a future version of these premium-priced lenses will reflect Zeiss's vast user-design experience.

Love this lens!
Great for macro. Super close focal distance. Extremely sharp. It works well for portraits and street photography as well. Has surprisingly nice bokeh for a macro lens. On a APSC Sensor it’s a 75mm equivalent focal length. Pairs well with my XH1.

This is the BEST lens I have EVER used
This is hands-down the best APS-C lens I have ever shot with. The focal length is a 35mm equivalent of 48mm, which is (in my opinion) an excellent focal length for environmental portraiture, which is exactly why I purchased this lens. The center of the lens is tack-sharp when shot wide-open and, of course, there's nothing quite like that contrasty "pop" quality so often associated with Zeiss glass. The only thing I dislike about the Zeiss 32mm 1.8 Touit is the fact that the autofocus motor is quite loud and a little on the slow side, making it nearly unusable in a video setting. However, if you're shooting video on a tripod with manual, fixed focus, you won't have any issues at all. I just wouldn't use this for any gimbal work.
