I love these straws!
This is the second time I’ve ordered these! They are durable, easy to use and clean, sturdy/not bendable, and a great price! We use them daily for our smoothies! I appreciate that they are stainless steel and extremely sturdy. They are wide and the small brush that is included makes them easy to clean if you forget to rinse them after use… I usually skip the brush and just run water through them directly after each use, for a few seconds, and then pop them in the utensil caddy of my dishwasher. They always come out perfectly clean!

Takes Getting Used To, But Great & Stylish Product!
I like using straws. I think they are a good invention and helps keep the mess to a minimal when drinking from a cup. However, no matter how hard I try, I always forget to save my used straws. I even went to the local grocery store to buy a large pack of them but I guess I got a cheap brand because many of them had small cracks in the plastic. Anyone who's used straws before knows that any kind of crack/hole in a straw pretty much makes it useless. So doing a quick Google search on "cool straws", stainless steel straws came up as one of them. I came to Amazon.com and typed in the phrase "stainless steel straws" and got several results. Ultimately though, I chose this particular one because I liked the fact that it had etches that resembled the straws that flex and bend at one end. All other SS straws on Amazon where just a polished/curved metal pipe. I'm a sucker for aesthetically pleasing features. I've used these straws multiple times since receiving them and can vouch that they work as well (if not better than plastic straws). One of the things I do miss is being able to chew on a straw. That was just a habit of mine with the plastic ones and I've caught myself trying to chew on these from time to time, only to wince in pain from chewing on a hard piece of metal. A cool feature of the straw is that when drinking hot (or cold) drinks, the temperature of the drink flows through the straw and heats it up to the same temperature. It has a cool sensation as the liquid flows to your lips and if it's a cold drink, you get to see frost build up on the outside of the straw. Cleaning is very easy. After I use each straw, I just run it under hot tap water and let the water flow through it for a couple seconds. On the box, it says that these are dishwasher safe but may be cleaned with a pipe brush for extensive cleaning. For those wondering what those are, you can find them in the baby isle of your favorite store as "sippy cup cleaners". It's essentially a spiral brush on a long piece of plastic or wire. Aside from all that, I'm glad I own these. Not only do they look cool, but they never go bad and you never have to throw them away. I'm being hip & environmentally conscious at the same time.

A must have for those who enjoy straws!
One day I was home, flipping thru cable channels, when I happened upon Oprah interviewing Drew Barrymore. The actress commented on how cool the metal straws were, that were provided in the beverage for the interview. I was intrigued. My husband and kids use straws all the time and I wondered would they like these. So I searched Amazon and found these. What the heck...usually I spend about $2 to $3 for a large box of plastic straws, so for a small investment, I would have a set of reusable straws that my family might enjoy. You know what? I wasn't disappointed! I love them and so does the rest of my crew. What I like? These straws are shaped like their plastic counterparts. They even have a bend in the neck. The straws are stainless steel (like most silverware), and can be used for a variety of beverages...from liquid to frozen. And to me the beverage seems to stay colder than plastic ones. You can even clean the straws by hand, or slip into the dishwasher. And finally, because of their size, you can store them anywhere, including your silverware drawer. What don't I like? There isn't anything about these straws that I don't like. In conclusion, I highly recommend this product. They are cool, convenient and a must have. They also make for a wonderful conversation piece when guests are over. I give these 5 stars.

Not quite perfect for all smoothies
I think these are very good quality and, while over-priced, should pay for themselves over time. I bought them for drinking my smoothies, but they are not exactly what I hoped for. The product itself is worthy of 5 stars, however the size is misrepresented here on Amazon as 1/2" diameter and that should really knock a couple of stars off. I have settled for a 4 star rating. For many the diameter will not be an issue but if you are looking for a "thick" straw then read on please. It should be noted that I add oat bran, wheat bran, whole flax seeds & wheat germ to my smoothies so that I get adequate fiber in my daily diet (and the other benefits of course!). This if course makes my smoothies very thick, perhaps thicker than most fruit or green smoothies. I do blend them fully in my Vita-mix though, so there are absolutely no chunks or unground flax seeds. I had been using plastic "bubble tea" straws with my smoothies which measure 3/8" in diameter and are PERFECT for thick smoothies. However I was hoping that these would be the non-disposable equivalent. Like many others, I am both concerned about the chemicals in plastic "leaching" into food & drink, as well as minimizing my trash & recycling. Unfortunately they are not exactly what I was looking for. They are incorrectly listed on Amazon as 1/2" in diameter when in fact they are 1/4". 1/2" would be wider than the bubble tea straws (and may be too large). I did verify that I was shipped the correct item. To be fair to the manufacturer, they do not list the diameter anywhere on the packaging so I am not sure where Amazon got that info from. Nothing has gotten stuck in them, however I do struggle a little more to suck the smoothie through them. There was no struggle at all with the bubble tea straws. The smoothie also takes longer to finish now (narrower tube= less product coming through per second lol). Not an issue for many, but if I'm in a hurry to finish my smoothie before running out the door, it is a little annoying. One positive is that because they are made of steel, they will not "compress" or crush as you suck on them - and as long as there are no chunks anywhere, your smoothie will continue to flow through problem free (although not as fast as I like!). Truth be told, they are really not that much wider than many regular straws (maybe slightly, but not by much). They are still a very well made product though & could last a lifetime. RSVP International (the manufacturer), if you see this PLEASE make a wider 3/8" (or thereabouts) straw. That would be my ideal. Thanks!

Not too sure what others are upset about
First off, no, the straws are NOT 1/2 inch wide, mine measured to be 5/16 inch wide. Not sure how others are measuring 3/16 inch wide, perhaps they are a bit upset that it's not 1/2 inch and are trying to give the product a bad rep...anyways, I made a smoothie, which was quite thick with oatmeal and chia seeds, and this straw held up. I bought other stainless steel straws (the bendy kind, for normal drinks) and those straws measure to be 1/4 inch wide. These straws are a bit wider, 1/16 inch, which sounds like nothing, but in the end it does make a difference. For $9 this isn't a bad deal. They wash decently in the dishwasher, although I did buy a straw cleaner for them, but have not had to use it yet. I read another review about someone not liking a 'metallic taste'. I've noticed no such thing with a wide array of drinks; tea, smoothies, juice, and even water. Probably a result of the 'placebo' effect, s/he was expecting a metallic taste and got it. Yes, the straws do get cold with use, it's simple physics and common sense, no one should have to tell you that the straws will change in temperature with the drink. Yes, the straws are metal, but you already know this as you are here on Amazon. If you're dumb enough to chip a tooth on the straw, you probably shouldn't be allowed access to a computer. You're the reason there are warning labels on everything. In the end, it's a stainless steel straw. Not too sure why so many people get all technical in the reviews. Nope, it is not 1/2 inch wide, but as long as you aren't drinking tar, it would normally do the trick. If you are iffy, then look elsewhere as you have some serious straw needs these probably can't fulfill. For others, go ahead and buy it, it's nothing to get emotional about. Hope this helps out.

first impression, xlnt
Awesome fat straws, just the thing for sipping your smoothie from a normal pint glass. Half the reviewers on here are apparently insane, obsessing on diameters and whether they can suck their granola through it, or whatever... Bottom line: is a fat straw, like you get with a milkshake at your favorite fast food joint, except this one is stainless steel, and should theoretically last forever if you take good care of it. It is not a perfectly straight tube; the walls taper ever so slightly just before the nicely finished ends. It also has a series of rings partway down, where a plastic kid's straw has the flexible joint. These are not a bendy joint, and serve no real purpose except as a symbolic reminder that these are legitimate, purpose-built straws, not just some random tubes. Personally, I find the price, at less than two bucks each, really reasonable. Have you tried to go out and smelt ore, refine metal, make tubes, and finish them nicely, then ship them halfway around the world? It's very difficult, unless you have an army of slaves... Anyway, these are exactly what I was looking for in a shorter straw. (Cue Metallica) But for Mason jar sized containers and larger, there's also a 12" pair of otherwise identical straws on Amazon that are perfect. Buy both kinds and prepare to suck anything, anywhere. Now, whether you prefer to suck on the 12" or the 8" depends entirely on personal preference and specific application. :)

Perfect for toddlers
These are perfect for my toddler. A much better option for little ones instead of stainless steel or glass straws.

A Classy Way to Drink Your Water at the Gym
Brilliant product, Stainless steel, so virtually unbreakable, non toxic (not plastic etc...) & not made from waxed paper so will not go soggy. I read one review which said some people may find the hard metal in their mouth a little difficult to get used to, but I have had no problem with this (no different to using metal cutlery !). The price is very reasonable and they even come postage free. Additionally they look very 'classy'
