Humes & Berg 121 Stonelined French Horn Straight Mute

This is the go-to for horn players. I tried a substitute mute that was cheaper, but it just didn't work right or sound right. If you need a mute, this is the one to get. It's a standard mute that does the job and does it well.

I am a long time brass musician who recently added the French Horn. Naturally, the music we are playing requires a mute. As a beginner, I did not want to spend a fortune, and from other experience, I assumed a basic, stone lined mute would work. It inserts well into the bell. The quality is fine. The mute plays well in tune, and the conductor has offered no complaints. Admittedly, I am not familiar with all the nuances you might get from mutes of other materials, but this one performs well at a reasonable price. If only I could say the same about the French Horn . . . ;-)

Exactly what my daughter needed. She has a collection of trumpet mutes but needed one for the horn. This works perfectly.

It is a Horn mute. That's about all I have to say about it. As a Music Education student it works for me, though I may choose to go the pricier straight mute route sometime in the near future. I would say for the high school -> beginning college student this is a good mute, and it's very inexpensive too!

This mute works great for when I'm playing. It was also a great value for the price and I know from experience with others that it will last virtually forever.

My husband is so appreciative! I can work on dynamics without being offensive to his ears.
